Niendorf auf Poel, Scheune des Gutshauses

It’s hard to imagine a more magical setting for a manor house: on eastern Poel island, just outside the small community of Niendorf, surrounded by nothing but fields, with the Kirchsee – a part of Wismar Bay – stretching out along the sloping land behind the manor house, and just beyond it, the backdrop of Kirchdorf, with its harbor and the old church that gave the village its name. A farmstead was built here in 1860 – this is, in any case, the date shown on a beam of the half-timbered barn. The estate was owned by the Sievert family from the 1930s to 1945. It was then taken over by the local East German Agricultural Production Community (LPG) as a collectivized farm. A dairy farm was operated here until 1990. In 1994, the estate was returned to the Sievert Family, who sold it to Hans Joachim Lembke in 1995. Over the next four years, the new owner completely restored the dilapidated estate. The barn and residential house were gutted and rebuilt.
The large barn is not only used for Festspiele concerts: The islanders also cherish it as a venue for weddings. If you’ve ever stood here and watched the sun set over the Kirchsee, you’ll understand why...!
