Festspiel Favourites

Unexpected musical experiences and personal encounters are trademarks of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The festival programme includes a broad range of series and »festivals within the festival«, where visitors can discover and focus on particular elements through a wide range of supplementary activities such as guided tours, listening experiments, artist talks and discussions over several days.
Promising young artists from all over the world present themselves in the series »Junge Elite« and »Bothmer-Musik«. The »Landpartie« invites you to a musical excursion to the countryside. And the »Grenzgänge« format takes you into the young jazz scene. Discover more about our various Festspiel elements here.

Inselmusik

The String Quartet Festival on Rügen

The island of Rügen has always been a place of longing and a holiday destination - the perfect place for our »Inselmusik« with concerts in a class of their own: on three days in September, the Consone Quartet, the Esmé Quartet and Quatuor Hanson will perform chamber music from Haydn to Stravinsky. This year, Inselmusik offers even more: piano legend Alfred Brendel, proven specialist for quartet literature and promoter of many new string quartets, will accompany the ensembles for three days and work publicly with them on the works. Festival prizewinner Kit Armstrong will also be there, a piano virtuoso who, together with the quartets, will make picturesque places resound. An excursion to the Mönchgut peninsula with a short concert and a guided hike through the Zicker nature reserve rounds off the comprehensive cultural enjoyment.
