Discover Festival

With more than 190 concerts and over 90,000 visitors each year, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are amongst Germany’s largest classical music festivals. International orchestras, stars of the classical music scene and talented up-and-coming musicians from all over the world perform in castles, stately homes, country manors, churches, barns and factory halls or in the open air. The music, the incomparable lakes and seaside landscapes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the extraordinary venues make our concerts a truly special experience. The Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern comprise three seasons: Festspielfrühling Rügen, Festspielsommer and Advents- und Neujahrskonzerte.

Our Festspiel Seasons

Festspielfrühling Rügen is the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern’s spring festival, which takes place over 10 days in March each year. Our visitors are invited to discover and rediscover musical treasures in intimate concerts with exceptional artists. Prize-winners from the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern take over the artistic direction of the Festspielfrühling to create tailor-made programmes for the island concerts together with their friends and colleagues.

Over three months from mid-June to mid-September, the Festspielsommer brings music to the most beautiful locations in the region, be it old country manors or stately homes, barns or factory halls, churches or out in the open the air. Promising up-and-coming musicians perform alongside established stars of the classical music world and international orchestras. Our annual Prize-winner in Residence shapes the summer season with up to 20 concerts while special series such as Landpartie (Music in the Countryside), Junge Elite (Young Elites), Unerhörte Orte (Unheard Places), 360° ..., 2 x Hören (Listen Twice) and our children’s and family programme Mäck & Pomm create special focus points and have become audience favourites.

Over three weekends before Christmas, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern join with festive audiences and world-class performers to  present Advent concerts in Ulrichshusen, Stolpe bei Anklam and Schwiessel. According to Festspiel tradition, the New Year is welcomed with two New Year’s concerts in Ulrichshusen over the first weekend in January.

Our Festspiel Favourites

Unexpected musical experiences and personal encounters are trademarks of the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The festival programme includes a broad range of series and ‘festivals within the festival’, where visitors can discover and focus on particular elements through a wide range of supplementary activities such as guided tours, listening experiments, artist talks and discussions over several days. With 2 x Hören (Listen Twice), visitors are afforded the time and space to listen intensively. 360° ... explores a particular instrument or formation from all sides, while the series Unerhörte Orte (Unheard Places) takes visitors on a voyage of discovery through architecture and music and leads them to unusual concert venues. We present promising emerging artists from all over the world in the series Junge Elite (Young Elites), Bothmer-Musik and Landpartie (Music in the Countryside).
